partner, McKinsey & Company
Balázs brings deep experience in advising major financial institutions on strategy, risk, and operational and organizational transformation. He is a leader in McKinsey’s Risk Management Practice.
Balázs has helped design and deliver far-reaching transformation programs for several leading financial services companies across Europe. Working with an Eastern European banking group, for example, he helped shape a large-scale collections transformation program across its subsidiaries—both retail and corporate.
For another major bank, Balázs developed a Lean transformation program focusing on customer care units including call centers, branch offices, and collections; the effort identified 20% in cost-saving opportunities. For a major universal bank, he designed a comprehensive change program to drive cultural and organizational renewal. And for a large Eastern European financial institution, he steered a turnaround strategy to mitigate risks from its legacy non-performing loan portfolio and to re-launch growth in key segments.
His other experience includes planning and helping manage the separation of the “bad bank” function of a major Eastern European bank. This assignment included shaping strategy, strengthening operations, and ensuring legal compliance.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Balázs worked for Raiffeisen Bank in Budapest.
